ABOUT SHAREDROP
File sharing without the unnecessary middleman.
ShareDrop is a simple file transfer tool built around direct peer-to-peer communication. Create a session, share a link or code, connect another device, and transfer files directly.
WHY SHAREDROP
Sharing a file should be simple.
Traditional file sharing often means uploading a file, waiting for the upload to finish, generating a link, and then downloading the file again on another device.
ShareDrop takes a different approach. When two devices are connected, the application can establish a direct peer-to-peer channel and transfer the selected files between them.
The goal is not to build another cloud drive. The goal is to make moving files from one device to another feel direct, transparent, and easy.
Built around direct connections
ShareDrop uses WebRTC for peer-to-peer communication. A lightweight signaling layer helps participants find and establish the connection, while the file transfer happens through the resulting data channel.
CORE PRINCIPLES
Designed around the transfer itself.
Every part of ShareDrop is focused on making the transfer clear, direct, and easy to understand.
Direct peer-to-peer transfer
Files are transferred directly between connected devices using a secure peer-to-peer connection instead of traditional cloud file storage.
Fast and efficient
ShareDrop is built for direct transfers, helping you move files without first uploading them to a separate storage service.
Privacy focused
Your files are shared between participants without requiring permanent cloud storage of the transferred file contents.
Secure connection
WebRTC provides the underlying encrypted communication channel used to establish the direct connection between participants.
HOW IT WORKS
Four simple steps.
Create a session
Select the files you want to share and create a new transfer session.
Share the session
Send the generated link, access code, or QR code to the receiver.
Connect
The receiver joins the session and ShareDrop establishes a direct peer-to-peer connection.
Transfer
Files are transferred directly between the connected devices while both sides show live progress.
MULTIPLE RECEIVERS
One session can serve multiple devices.
A sender can have multiple receivers connected to the same session. Each receiver gets its own peer-to-peer connection and can receive the shared files independently.
CONNECTION
Dedicated channel
TRANSFER
Independent progress
SESSION
One shared access point
Privacy is part of the design.
ShareDrop is designed so that file contents do not need to be stored as permanent cloud files just to move them between devices.
What ShareDrop is — and isn't
ShareDrop is a temporary transfer tool intended for moving files between connected devices.
It is not intended to replace long-term cloud storage, backup services, or file synchronization platforms.
The emphasis is on transferring a file when you need it, between the devices you choose.
