Files you transfer

ShareDrop is designed to transfer files between connected devices rather than provide permanent cloud storage.

The contents of the files you select are sent through the peer-to-peer connection established for the transfer.

After a transfer, the receiver controls what happens to the downloaded file on their device.

Session and connection data

A transfer session requires connection information so the sender and receivers can discover each other and establish communication.

The signaling layer coordinates the connection setup. It does not represent the file-transfer channel itself.

Session information may exist for as long as it is required to establish and coordinate the active session.

Peer-to-peer communication

Once the connection is established, file data is transferred through the WebRTC data channel between participants.

WebRTC provides the secure communication mechanisms used by the peer-to-peer connection.

The exact network path can depend on the participating devices and network conditions.

Cookies and local data

ShareDrop may use browser storage or similar mechanisms when needed for application functionality.

These mechanisms can help maintain application state or support features during a session.

They are separate from the contents of the files you transfer.

What ShareDrop is not designed to do.

RETENTION

Designed for temporary use.

ShareDrop sessions exist to coordinate a transfer between participants. They are not intended to become permanent workspaces.

The exact lifetime of session and signaling information depends on the application and infrastructure configuration used by the deployment.

SECURITY

Secure communication is built in.

ShareDrop uses WebRTC for peer-to-peer communication. The browser establishes the connection between participating devices and provides the underlying secure transport.

Network conditions can affect how the connection is established and which network path is ultimately used.

IMPORTANT

Keep important files backed up separately.

ShareDrop is a file-transfer service. A successful transfer does not replace a dedicated backup or storage solution.
